Your Awesome Shit:
2 years ago I hollowed out an old ikea shelf to make a wood case for my macbook. I’ve since turned it into a production ready shoulder bag that accomodates any 13″ macbook and a number of other small laptops and devices. Everything is as natural and sustainable as possible. We use Moso bamboo which is very renewable and manufactured with no added VOC’s in the adhesives. We have custom hardware manufactured in Coquitlam, the wood enclosures computer cut in Langley and I assemble them in our shop in Vancouver. We finish them with 100% pure tung oil (again, no VOC’s). The end result is a super unique product that is super awesome and stylish.
Your Bio:
I’m a UVic grad who is trying to make our world a better place. I founded debrand Service Inc. in 2008 and our objective is to reduce the waste generated by companies and major organizations. After gradutating in 2003 I ran across Canada to raise scholarship funds for students. I then went on to work for Nike Running for 2 years; after which I started my own design co. that produced unique pieces for the marketing industry. But after seeing my creations used for 2 maybe 3 activations then thrown out, I knew I had to change my focus. That’s where I’m at today.
Anything else you think we should know:
At debrand, we do consulting on material selection and production methods as well as the physical breakdown of old/used marketing materials for donation, reuse and recycling. Marketing is the second most wasteful industry next to construction and we want to clean sh*t up and hold producers responsible. The problem is that we are pioneering and industry and it takes a great deal of time, effort and $. So, though we’ve managed to survive for 3 years now, it’s a constant battle. We often take on unique side jobs to help support our cause and keep our doors open. Right now, that’s the cindercase. We’ve produced and sold over 20 units in the past 3 weeks but we need $ to produce demo units that we can send to key influencers. Our productions costs are still really high and we can’t afford to give away cases to those who can really get the word out. Some extra $ would go a long way to helping us perfect our production methods, reduce our costs and get some good exposure. This, in turn, will help generate revenue allowing us to focus or effort on building debrand and our range of services. We’ve had some great success and our client list is very prestigious, but those in the industry are slow to adopt and we’re a little too far ahead of the curve.
Hope your Friday is being awesome to you. Check us out at www.cindercase.com
