To The Good People at Awesome Shit Club,
It has come to my attention that the top charting pop songs sung and performed by women are largely about relationships and love. For example, Ariana Grande’s song “Problem” is about ridding herself of a man who is no good for her, whereas Taylor Swift’s new ballad “Blank Space” plays with her reputation of being a woman who moves from man to man. While I totally agree that the theme of love is an important inspiration to many writers, I would like to see some other messages coming out of the pop industry.
My idea is to write a pop song with a accompanied music video that has nothing to do with love. The theme will be ‘girl power’ without the ‘power’ coming from validation of moving on from a relationship. It would be an empowering song celebrating women
I have, up until this point, been writing songs myself that are about certain people from my past (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g-myZTjYZc) but am committed to writing a song that has nothing to do with boys.
