Calendaring system for render farm

Motion graphics and 3D animation are highly competitive industries, with a limited number of opportunities for studio employment. Studios have a huge advantage, because they can invest in massive computer rendering power, allowing them to work faster and cheaper than freelance artists.

As a motion graphic designer and a technology enthusiast, I built my own render farm, which is essentially a stack of processors that increases render speeds by more than five times that of a single computer. This allows me to bid for bigger projects, and the possibility to compete with big studios for projects.

Now that I’ve built this render farm and am using it myself, I want to make it available to other artists as a shared resource. I’m working on setting up a work station as well as a file server that will relay files directly to clients on completion. I’ll charge a modest rate for the usage of the farm.

To do this, I need to build a calendaring system for booking the farm, and some kind of infrastructure for tracking usage. I’ll also develop a simple to follow user guide that will allow the designer to get up and running in no time at all.
