30 strangers out for a meal + conversation

Panel of esteemed and rad Awesomites,

I’m asking for $1000 for a project I cooked up in an hour, that will take one year+ to execute well, and address two mainstream conversations (to start) –

1)      1. “Never Eat Alone” – advice from professional development & career advancement spheres, practiced by ‘successful’ people worldwide including billionaires Enver Yucel + Oprah Winfrey 1

2)     2. “Travel yourself interesting” 2 – i.e. go abroad to learn & grow, go find yourself, etc. especially for upwardly mobile millennials

– with a twist. The spin I put to both: chill out, check your privilege, focus on “haves” over “have-nots” and do it right here (e.g. Vancouver). Living a wanderlust life and “travel at home” for years, I want to showcase how to do it through online storytelling.

Basic premise: I take 30 strangers out for a meal + conversation, one-on-one over the 2015 year; share the stories online throughout, and connect the whole group at the end of the year via common narrative (maybe in-person event).

A level playing field & connection to diverse audiences via one channel (me) has it so no human is above or below any other – my dining guests are full-time parents, students, tech entrepreneurs, panhandlers, ex-cons, CEOs, new immigrants… moving past the labels & superficial.

ASC funds to kick-start this project to finance paying for these meals. I put in everything else – network connections and time (for pre- & post- media, admin, building a quick site, etc.). ** Find the foundations of the project plan here. **

This change lives & strengthen communities. ASC’s $1000 investment starts a movement. This evolves over time – one tangible take-away is an online ‘guide’ for the interested in doing something similar who don’t know where to start.

Project supports local business, connects silo-ed communities, pushes us all out of our comfort zones, puts an equal spotlight on interesting people without any BS ‘glamour’ filter or agenda.

Look forward to pitching this to the whole panel at Mobify on the 28th. Thanks for your time already in considering this project, and for making ASC happen in Vancouver.
