So let’s face facts – there’s a lot of environmental problems going on in Canada. We’re losing wild space to industrial development and Canadian environmental regulations have been weakened. But the good news is that there are young change-makers that are speaking up and making a difference – and I’d like to reward them for their good-doings.
With the ASC money, I’d give the money to The Starfish Canada – a nonprofit a few friends and I started in 2010. We run Canada’s Top 25 Environmentalists Under 25 program, which has had national success in recognizing Canada’s astounding environmental youth leaders. The list has included recreationists, community gardeners, pipeline activists, scientists, and many more under 25 that deserve the accolade. The money would help boost the program and give these leaders national attention for their positive deeds. Specifically, the funds could go directly to providing professional development opportunities for some of the top finalists as a token of thanks for their great work. The Starfish Canada wants to help these leaders be the best they can be – and we think funds from you Awesomites would be the perfect way to do so.
