Don’t Be Afraid campaign (DBA)

Hey ASC!

I read about the Awesome Shit Club online and I’d like my project to be up for consideration.  I think what you’re doing is AMAZING and the name you chose is perfect!  Here’s the 200 word description of my collaborative project that falls under the category of “Making Canada and the World a Better Place”:

“My name is Allyson Reigh.  I am a singer-songwriter and I want to record a professional song and video in support of the Don’t Be Afraid campaign (DBA), started by Scott Jones, a choir conductor who was left paralyzed after a homophobic attack in October 2013. DBA seeks confront homophobia by using art/creativity to inspire social change.  They’ve even had participation from The Backstreet Boys (FOR REAL).

Although I have already written a song for the campaign, it was arranged for a choir and needs significant change to make it a commercially viable and radio/YouTube-ready song that can be used across the country for Pride/LGBTQ events and DBA speaking engagements.

Despite various sources of funding for musicians and community/LGBTQ organizations, there is nothing that would fully fund this kind of collaborative project or support this “interim” period of re-writing/re-arranging the song.  I am asking for money to help fund this interim period and help bridge the gap between any grant funding we may receive in the future and the real cost of this project (est. completion in fall 2015).

Scott’s message of forgiveness, acceptance, and love is powerful and desperately needed.  A song and video that can help to spread this message is one way in which we can help our communities become more accepting and inclusive for all!”

Thank you very much for your consideration!
