Most folks lack a sense of scale at these orders of magnitude, so build a clue to cue.
Build a block of city that is a cubic kilometre. The Burj Khalifa is 830 metres tall, 170m shy of 1k.
Lots of folks are size queens; big grabs their attention. Four 1k towers, at the corners of a kilometre square would give a small taste of the volume of a cubic kilometre. Fill it in. A nearby benchmark – Grouse Mountain is 1,230 metres, so 20% off or 4/5th’s Grouse’s height. 10m3 is a build-able bite; there’d be a million of them, half commons & half for sale; half-a-mil a bite might generate a quarter-Tril. Each year report ice-volume-melt. Comes a time to kiss Venice goodbye, and Shanghai, Dhaka & Richmond … Singapore’s expanding land on sand, misguided – learn to build on floats … when the flood plains earn their names, where for the refugees?
