| Propeller is a new music series I co-created with my manager and band, Golden Future, that unites the best in soul from here and abroad with the number one goal to set the dance floor on fire! There is a stupid amount of musical talent in the Vancouver soul music scene that often gets passed over by both local and international eyes and ears. Vancouver is not the first place that comes to mind when thinking about soul music! We want to change that by uniting local and international soul artists at Gastown’s premiere live music venue, Guilt & Co., with the goal of community, collaboration and the fostering of a new perception from inside and outside of our city on the fire that is burning inside the belly of the Vancouver soul music scene. Partial proceeds from each night go to supporting a local charity. Some of the charities already set for specific nights include A Loving Spoonful, Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre and WISH. Because we have set up the night in an intimate club to ensure packed nights and high vibes, our margins for the night are veeeeerrrrrry slim, particularly when it comes to bringing in the international talent. We’d like to use the money to pay the international artist fees so that this isn’t a losing venture for us. $2000 is what the fees chalk up to for all of our international guests combined. We front everything else for the night. The goal of Propeller is to unite, challenge and elevate the Vancouver music scene, bringing together music-loving audiences and today’s most soulful bands.
