Makerspace: a shared workshop

I've combined these two presentations, since they're on the same topic. I also understand that they've renamed it to "Makerspace" which requires less explaining...

Your Awesome Shit:
A hackerspace is a community-operated physical places, where people
can meet and work on their projects. We're working on getting one set
up for the greater Victoria area, just up the peninsula.
Build awesome things - robots, medieval siege weapons, flamethrowers,
etc. in a workshop in the country.
Our first stage of setup is to have a soldering station, cnc setup, a
3d printer, computer space and internet access, project storage, and
woodworking power tools.
From there we're planning to bootstrap into heavy metalworking with a
laser/plasma cutter and welding equipment.
Your dollars will help pay the first months' rent and startup supplies
until we get the membership money flowing!

Your Bio:
Growing up in the middle of nowhere, Alberta, I've worked on a chicken
farm, a dairy ranch, a petroleum-related metal shop, and a
slaughterhouse. Deciding that those all sucked, I got into IT.
Graduating university at the time of the dot-com bust, I worked at Tim
Hortons, a gas station, then spent some time in Telus tech support and
their abuse team which left me bitter and cynical for a time. I've
done web design, IT security consulting, and web application
development for various companies in Edmonton and on the west coast.
None of this has prepared me for having a child, although the farm
work came close.

Anything else you think we should know:
My father is a self-described "jerk of all trades". I think it's inherited.

Your Awesome Shit:

My awesome shit is a community supported work space for its members. These
communal work spaces are known as "hackerspaces". The hackerspace we're
trying to set up will have a few different areas, such as : electronics,
computers, wood and metal working, and a biology work station. The plan is
to get a small space and expand it and its capabilities, as the needs from
members necessitates it.
why is it awesome?
Hackerspaces brings people with similar interest and knowledge together.
They pools resources like tools and knowledge for the members, in one place.
People in the community can create, learn and manufacture what ever they can
think of in a safe friendly environment.

With the pooling of resources it will allow us to hold classes for members
and the community on topics that members are expert in, such as computer
repair, soldering, or metal lathing.

Having a space like this in the community would allow all the members to
create and contribute awesomeshit to our society.
