Bio:

Go Play Victoria is an emerging non-profit group, grown from the Manhunt Victoria urban games collective, that organizes active outdoor games with the intention of building community and promoting healthy lifestyles. The goal of the Go Play Victoria project is to take advantage of Manhunt’s huge popularity and publicity potential to help other groups in town run similar events and attract participants. Our events are open to people of all ages, backgrounds, and professions. We strive to make our games as non-competitive as possible with an emphasis on active participation and making new friends. These activities are free (or very cheap) and provide a venue for all members of society to gain a fuller knowledge of our city and the people who live here. Our secondary purpose is to utilize the creative energy of our membership to hold fund-raisers for charitable organizations that share our goals of inclusion, community-building, and healthy lifestyles.

Awesome Shit:

While we will continue to run Manhunt, Go Play Victoria will be launching regular games of dodgeball and approaching other groups, such as the Hash House Harriers and the Victoria Orienteering Club, to use our website to publicize their events. Our website will operate in collusion with our Facebook presence with an event calendar and discussion panel. Secondly, we will throw fund-raising nights as a place to meet new friends and to raise funds for local charities that reflect our mission. While there are other sporting groups in town, at the heart of it, we’re the open-source version: run by volunteers, hosted in public spaces, and completely driven by the ideas of our varied membership. Our framework is simple: all events must be free (or very cheap), active, non-competitive, and open to everyone. If awarded this Awesome Shit Fund, we could purchase equipment for new games and begin promotion through posters, stickers, and our website as well as having seed money for fund-raising events. With just a small initial fund we will be able to use the momentum and excitement of our membership to generate new community initiatives and raise money to help local charities.
