awesome shit:
On June 25th and 26th, Vancouver is hosting a makerfaire. There will be press coverage and vast hordes of people from all walks of maker life. The Victoria Makerspace should be there! But not as spectators. That would be horribly disappointing to see everyone else make all of these great things and for us to be left out. No, we should together come up with the coolest, catchiest project ever conceived. And we have all the resources of the makerspace at our disposal: woodworking, metal casting, welding, plastic deposition, and very soon a laser cutter! It could be a laser cut design for trinket giveaways, or a metal-cast sign that spews fire to place on our booth (and we should have a booth, right? Of course!) Everyone who wants to should be involved through a planning meeting and series of workshop days/classes. The ASC money will be used to buy supplies and pay our booth fees. What better visibility for makerspace, Victoria ideas, and ASC?
Bio:
Derek is a computer science PhD student with a checkered past. From a sordid decade at the evil empire (Microsoft) he fled to a life on the sea – ocean sailing and boatbuilding, came back to land with a primitive living skills apprenticeship and finally caught the biology bug and founded a synthetic biology club at UVic. From custom-engineered bacteria to boats and buildings, making things is an empowering passion. Derek is a founding member of the Victoria Makerspace where he wants to help you craft your dreams.
