Hello,
I would like to produce a stage version of Homer’s The Odyssey for the Fringe festival circuit. The show will be a low-tech, low budget, comical adaptation of the story as seen through a cynical modern lens and translated into the language of today’s idiot youth.
Most people forget that The Odyssey was basically the Transformers movie of it’s day. Where Homer brushed over the emotional realities of Odysseus’ unbelievable adventures, we will hone in on them.
This play is already booked in a couple of festivals for this summer, and will be produced regardless, but with your $500 I can make it $2000 better.
If funded, I will hire Fringe festival veteran, former CBC comedy writer and occasional internet sensation Wes Borg as a co-writer. This will have an immeasurable impact on quality.
I will also book a live reading of the script in Vancouver at the Little Mountain Gallery with the best local comedians and improvisers I can wrangle. As a thank-you, all Awesomites will receive VIP tickets.
By funding this project, you are supporting cultural development, making history more accessible to youth, and most importantly, saving Canadian audiences from potentially sub-par theatre.
