Hi,
I just heard about this today so since it’s last minute I’ll preface this pitch with a youtube demo http://youtu.be/cPYbLtZExDo
A fog screen is a device that creates a smooth curtain of fog for projecting images, video, and lasers into. They create an ethereal volumetric display that people can walk through and interact with. Paired with an Xbox Kinect it’s possible to create an interactive display. The fog can be generated by hazers/smoke machines, but I am currently using ultrasonic water misters so the only consumables are water and power.
My goal is to make a modular, portable, affordable system for nightclubs/concert venues. I’m really into the electronic music scene and have been making lights and lasers for a few years. I am an avid tinkerer/inventor/mad scientist and love to combine sound and light into interactive visuals. I love summer festivals like Bass Coast and Shambhala. They are located in extremely hot and dry places so a water mist installation would be very desirable, plus those festivals are all about fostering creativity and the visual arts.
Unfortunately I don’t have evidence of the second full-size prototype I built last year. It didn’t work perfectly; the fog curtain was choppy and short due to a lack of air volume. The semi-failure sparked new design ideas to fix the issues.
I have mentioned this project to some local event promoters, visual artists, and a laser projectionist. All have been interested in a finished product.
Thanks for reading! Looking forward to seeing what awesome shit Vancouverites have up their sleeves!
